Adithya Varma, the Tamil remake of Telugu film Arjun Reddy, releases today. Starring Dhruv Vikram in the titular role, the film has been through its ups and downs during the making with a change in director and massive reshoots. It is yet to be seen how the film will be received by the Tamil audience especially considering how Kabir Singh (the Hindi remake) was panned by critics. Both the Telugu and Hindi versions of the film did excellent business at the box office.
Adithya Varma has been directed by Gireesaaya, who has earlier assisted director Sandeep Reddy Vanga. Vanga helmed the Telugu and Hindi versions of the film. Banita Sandhu of Shoojit Sircar’s October fame stars in the lead role opposite Dhruv.
Adithya Varma’s music has been composed by Radhan, who had composed the songs and the background score for Arjun Reddy.
The Telugu version proved to be a game-changer for Vijay Deverakonda’s career and even the Hindi version Kabir Singh proved to be a massive solo hit for Shahid Kapoor. If the Tamil remake performs as well as it did in Hindi, then this will be the perfect launchpad for actor Vikram’s son Dhruv Vikram.

Adithya Varma, which was earlier titled Varmaa, was completely reshot. Producers E4 Entertainment announced in February that they won’t be releasing the version helmed by National Award-winning director Bala.
E4 Entertainment’s statement read, “E4 Entertainment had engaged B Studios to recreate the Tamil version of Arjun Reddy titled as Varmaa, on a first copy basis, on the latter’s insistence. We at E4 Entertainment are not at all happy with the final version handed over to us and due to various creative and other differences, we have decided not to release this version. Instead we will start afresh, and shoot a new Tamil version of Arjun Reddy with Dhruv as the main lead by staying true to the soul and intention of the original.”
